As of January 1st, 2009, Med Pay coverage became mandatory for all auto insurance policies issued in the state of Colorado. This type of policy includes a minimum of $5,000 coverage for the insured driver and any passengers injured in an accident, regardless of who is at fault. This money is available for immediate medical payments, like ambulance rides and emergency room treatment. Consumers who do not want Med Pay treatment must opt out in writing. For more information on this or any other auto insurance-related issues, contact the Colorado Division of Insurance (http://www.dora.state.co.us/insurance/).
