Although Georgia has some of the higher liability insurance requirements around (Bodily Injury Liability of $25,000 per person, $50,000 per occurrence and Property Damage Liability of $25,000), it does not require Uninsured Motorist (UM) coverage for drivers. As of July 1st, 2009, all insurance companies operating in Georgia are required to offer UM coverage as an option in all auto insurance policies they write. It's probably a good idea to opt for it: A 2006 study says that as many as 10% of the state's drivers are uninsured.
