Utah's no-fault law requires you to purchase a minimum of $3,000 of Personal Injury Protection coverage (PIP). PIP is a type of insurance that helps pay your medical expenses in the event of an accident regardless of who is at fault. Not required, but recommended, is Uninsured Motorist (UM) coverage. According to the Insurance Research Council, an estimated 8% of Utah's drivers were uninsured in 2007. UM coverage protects you in the event you're in an accident with one of these people.
